The Karnak Temple Complex, commonly known as Karnak, comprises a vast mix of decayed temples, pylons, chapels, and other buildings near Luxor, Egypt.
The temple of Luxor, located in the heart of ancient Thebes, was essentially built under the 18th and 19th Egyptian dynasties. It was consecrated to the god Amun under his two aspects of Amun-Ra. The oldest parts currently visible date back to Amenhotep III and Ramses II.
Luxor is a city on the east bank of the Nile River in southern Egypt. It lies on the site of ancient Thebes, the capital of the pharaohs at the height of their power during the 16th to 11th centuries BC. The present city surrounds two huge surviving ancient monuments: the elegant Temple of Luxor and the Temple of Karnak, one mile to the north. The royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens lie on the west bank of the river.
