The Slanic Salt Mine, also known as the Unirea Mine, is the largest salt mine in Romania and is considered the largest visitable salt mine in Europe. Various facilities are arranged for tourists such as: sports fields, children's playgrounds, activity areas such as air hockey, billiards, mini-golf and carting. The salt mine also has a souvenir shop and a grocery store, and for relaxation there is a cafe. On the surface, tourists can see the saltwater lake and the waterfall, as well as a museum where you can see machinery used for salt mining.

The salt deposit at Salina Slănic Prahova has been exploited for over 300 years, according to the most recent documentary evidence. The history of the salt mine begins around 1685.
