Due to the diversity and great extension of aquatic environments that the reserve protects, in the year 1990 it was declared a Ramsar site, an international recognition for wetlands of great importance.

Reserva Ecologica Manglares Churute
In Churute Mangroves, three different ecosystems converge in relatively small spaces. On the one hand, there is the characteristic red mangrove, whose roots make their way and give the feeling that they are advancing in the estuaries. Hence the name with which the inhabitants of the area know it: the walking mangrove.
