Meraas, the company that gave the city La Mer beach, Bluewaters artificial island and City Walk, in late 2017 presented its next brainchild - Al Seef, nestled near the historic Al Fhidi neighbourhood in Dubai Creek. The district covers an area of over 230 thousand square metres with a total length of almost 2 km along the bay.
Al Fahidi is a historic neighbourhood with traditional buildings. Al Fahidi Fortress, built in the 18th century, houses the Dubai Museum with an exhibition on pearl mining. The former home of Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum displays old photographs and documents. The Pearl Fishermen's Village and Heritage Village museums have recreated clay huts where potters and jewellers work. The Textile Souk Bazaar offers colourful pashmina and handicrafts.
