The Giza Plateau is a limestone plateau in Giza, Egypt, the site of the Fourth Dynasty Giza pyramid complex, which includes the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers' village and an industrial complex. It forms the northernmost part of the 16,000 ha Pyramid Fields in the Western Desert edge of the Nile Valley that are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis and its Necropolis.[1]
Khufu's pyramid complex includes a valley temple, now buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman, while diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been discovered, the site has not yet been fully excavated The complex also featured a causeway that connected the valley temple to a mortuary temple adjacent to the pyramid, this causeway, once lined with statues and adorned with reliefs, highlights the grandeur of Khufu’s architectural achievements, though much of it is now lost Archaeologists have uncovered parts of the causeway, offering valuable insights into the ancient structure
Khafre's pyramid complex consists of a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple and the king's pyramid. The valley temple yielded several statues of Khafre. Several were found in a well in the floor of the temple by Mariette in 1860.
