The Art Déco period was key in the history of Mexico; in many cases, artists melted this sense of modernity with the roots of the country. We are going to see monuments, apartment buildings, an opera house, and even a bank that show how this style developed in the city.
This walking tour is for people who don't really know what exactly art deco is, all the way to experts who would like to know what makes the Mexican movement special and unique.
An introduction to Mexican Art Déco, its formal characteristics and its nuances with the Mexican Revolution War, the influences from other countries, but also how this movement talks a lot about the indigenous past of Mexico since it developed during the creation of a national identity. We are going to explore the outside of the monument and discuss other Art Déco buildings in the area. We do not enter this museum because there are no Art Déco elements on display. Later, we are going to visit the inside of the Palacio de Bellas Artes and the Bank of Mexico Museum.
