The Walter Taylor Bridge is a heritage-listed suspension bridge spanning the Brisbane River between Indooroopilly and Chelmer. Opened in February 1936 as the Indooroopilly Toll Bridge, it was designed and funded by Walter Taylor and used surplus cables from the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It remains Australia’s longest-span suspension street bridge and the only habitable bridge in the Southern Hemisphere, with residential apartments built into its towers that were occupied until around 2010. Originally tolled until the 1960s, it now serves both vehicles and pedestrians and is an iconic Brisbane landmark celebrated for its engineering, history, and distinctive Art Deco style
