We will journey through the enchanting Chianti hills, surrounded by olive groves, cypress trees, and vineyards, arriving at the medieval town of San Gimignano. Explore the town at your own pace with a self-guided visit. San Gimignano, a small walled medieval hill town near Siena, is renowned as the “Town of Fine Towers.” In the Middle Ages, the city boasted over 70 towers. Today, it stands as a captivating open-air museum, offering a glimpse into medieval life. The town is also famous for its saffron, the Golden Ham, and its white wine, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, crafted from the ancient Vernaccia grape grown on the sandstone hillsides. While in the main square, be sure to indulge in the world's best ice cream at Gelateria Dondoli. Wander through the village streets to admire the exceptional craftsmanship of skilled artisans.
Following our visit to San Gimignano, we'll proceed to the winery farm, where we'll pause for a delightful lunch and wine tasting. This winery farm is a passionate ambassador of authentic Italian wine and food culture, spreading its influence worldwide. Immerse yourself in a beautiful Italian experience, gaining insights into the perfect pairings of wine and food, proper glass etiquette, the secrets of Italian cuisine, and Tuscan winemaking techniques. Indulge in a comprehensive wine tasting featuring Chianti Riserva, Super Tuscan, Sangiovese, and the white Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Additionally, savor tastings of Balsamic Vinegar, Truffle, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. A sumptuous 3-course lunch awaits, offering options like Lasagna or homemade pasta, Bruschettas, Tuscan ham, Tuscan cold cuts paired with Pecorino of Pienza cheese, and more. The entire experience, including the farm tour, lunch, and tasting, lasts approximately 2 hours.
In close proximity to San Gimignano, our next destination is the Monteriggioni Castle. Monteriggioni Castle stands out as one of the most remarkable and representative Tuscan villages from the medieval era. Constructed by the Republic of Siena, it served as a strategic control point for passages along the Via Francigena. The castle boasts a spectacular walkway on its walls, offering panoramic views of the Chianti valley. Additionally, visitors have the opportunity to explore the museum showcasing medieval weapons, providing a fascinating glimpse into the historical significance of the castle.
