Pietrasanta is a lovely medieval town known for its artistic tradition. It is named the little Athens of Italy because of the many international artists that chose it as their adopted country. The beauty of Piazza del Duomo is breathtaking, the peaceful town invites us to walk along the streets with the little workshops, the local specialty shops, the art galeries and exibitions. Marble quarrying has brought many sculptors to Pietrasanta following in the footsteps of Michelangelo, who personally came here to chose his marble blocks extracted from the Apuan Alps nearby. The Piazza, blessed by its seclusion from traffic, is a lovely sitting room where tourists and artists from all over the world mingle with the friendly residents. Not far from Pietrasanta we take a break for lunch in a tradional family run restaurant to enjoy their wonderul Fettuccine Alfredo! This restaurant is frequented by locals, famous for their regional recipes with local mushrooms, meat and pastas.
In this archeological site, we will admire the ruins of a roman Villa, where a diplomatic family lived and its Bath complex. Amazing view, surrounded by gentle hill with olive trees and lake view.
