Under Ming Dynasty's Zhu Yuanzhang (1368-1644), General Xu Da reconstructed it on ruins, solidifying its role as a northern defense cornerstone. Further strengthened by Tan Lun and Qi Jiguang in 1569, it strategically linked Juyongguan and Gubeikou, safeguarding the capital and imperial tombs.
