Itinerary

Mount Etna

It is one of the world's most active volcanoes and is in an almost constant state of activity. The fertile volcanic soils support extensive agriculture, with vineyards and orchards spread across the lower slopes of the mountain and the broad Plain of Catania to the south. Due to its history of recent activity and nearby population, Mount Etna has been designated a Decade Volcano by the United Nations. In June 2013, it was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Admission Ticket Included

Rifugio Sapienza on Mount Etna is a popular starting point for excursions up the active volcano. Located at about 1,900 meters above sea level on the southern slope of Mount Etna, it offers services such as accommodations, restaurants, and guide services for tourists aiming to explore the volcano. It is accessible by road and is near the cable car that transports visitors further up the mountain towards the summit craters. This area provides spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes and the dynamic volcanic environment.

Admission Ticket Included

Craters Silvestri of Mount Etna

The Silvestri Craters are a pair of volcanic craters formed during the 1892 eruption of Mount Etna, one of the most famous and active volcanoes in the world, located on the island of Sicily, Italy. These craters are situated at an elevation of approximately 1,900 meters, close to Rifugio Sapienza, making them easily accessible to tourists. The lower of the two craters can be explored on foot via paths that wind around and into the crater, offering a unique opportunity to walk on the surface of an inactive volcanic crater. The area around the Silvestri Craters showcases the stark and beautiful volcanic landscape of Mount Etna, with solidified lava flows, volcanic ash, and the occasional growth of resilient plants that have adapted to this harsh environment. Visiting these craters provides insight into volcanic activity and the power of nature, all while presenting breathtaking views of the Sicilian countryside and, on clear days, the Mediterranean Sea.
