Valley of the Kings

The Valley of the Kings is a remarkable archaeological site, home to a variety of tombs intricately decorated with stunning art and hieroglyphs. Don't overlook King Tutankhamun's tomb, the valley's most iconic site, and take a tour of the temples built for Ramses II's sons and Amenhotep III to uncover fascinating ancient treasures and artifacts.

Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari

The magnificent Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari ranks among the most extraordinary funerary monuments of the ancient world, rivaling even the Pyramids. Set against the dramatic cliffs overlooking the Valley of the Kings, this temple boasts three grand terraces connected by ramps, each featuring a series of simple, square columns. Hatshepsut, one of the few female pharaohs in ancient Egypt, aptly referred to her creation as the "Splendor of Splendors." Interestingly, much of the temple was built during the reign of earlier rulers, starting with Mentuhotep II around 2050 BC. Over the years, many sphinxes and statues have disappeared, adding to the temple's imposing aura. The cool stone interior provides a refreshing retreat from the region’s intense heat and displays well-preserved wall reliefs and hieroglyphics, many of which still retain their vivid colors.
