You will meet with your guide at the lobby of your hotel at 07:15, be transferred to the pier to catch the ferry to Buyukada at 08:00, and be there in around 90 minutes. Buyukada, literally “Big Island” in Turkish, is the original Princes' Island, and the largest and most populated of the Princes’ Islands. Buyukada was used as an exile destination and as a monastery region during the Byzantine Christian period. During Byzantine era the island was also used as a prison for those who were opposing the Emperor. It was Buyukada where the Byzantine empresses Irene and Zoe and Anna Dalassena were sent on exile. After his deportation from the Soviet Union in February 1929, Leon Trotsky also stayed for four years on Buyukada.
This monastery-church complex is located on a 200m high hill in Büyükada. There you will also have a great view on the island. Please note that you have to walk a steep for half an hour after you reach the last point by your electric vehicle.
"Prinkipo Greek Orthodox Orphanage" served as an orphanage for 60 years, until 1964. You will see this interesting building during your electric vehicle tour without stopping.
