We started pedaling through the charming Jordaan district, a bohemian corner in the heart of Amsterdam. This old working class neighborhood has been transformed into a vibrant arts area, full of cozy cafes, vintage shops and independent galleries. We will pedal along quiet canals adorned with floating houses and discover its picturesque hidden courtyards (hofjes), authentic havens of peace. An ideal walk to immerse yourself in the creative and alternative atmosphere of this neighborhood full of history and culture.
Prinseneiland
From there we cross to Prinseneiland, a village-souled neighborhood in the heart of Amsterdam. Its narrow streets are dotted with makeshift gardens and neighbours chatting quietly on the doorstep of their homes. We’ll see old warehouses converted into homes and workshops, as we pedal alongside historic lifts that remind us of the neighborhood’s seafaring past. There will be no shortage of surprises such as a small urban farm, where chickens and pigs camp at ease, adding an authentic and close touch to this peaceful tour.
Silodam
The route continues through modern Silodam, an innovative residential area that combines history and modernity on the banks of the IJ. This former industrial dock has been transformed into a vibrant architectural space, where old grain warehouses coexist with colorful contemporary buildings. From here, we will enjoy privileged views of Amsterdam harbour and its boats, while exploring an area that, despite its renovation, retains a local character marked by quiet waterside living. An ideal place to discover the most modern Amsterdam without losing its maritime essence.
