The complex includes about 15 historic wooden buildings—such as a dojo, warden’s residence, bathhouse—reimagined as galleries, a library, cafés, and interactive areas. A jungly courtyard of banyan trees adds charm to the atmosphere.
The Taichung second market, built in 1917, is divided in 6 sections; each section was dedicated to a category. It’s hexagonal design make it very special ( and easy to get lost! ) Time for lunch in this area, don’t miss the specialties that the market has to offer, noodles, dumplings and buns!
The walk will continue to Miyahara, a red-brick architecture built by Miyahara Takeo, a Japanese ophthalmology doctor in 1927. It was the largest ophthalmology clinic in Taichung during the Japanese colonial period. Today, it is an elegant place with several pastry businesses. Wonderfully restorated, the building is a place full of history and wonder.
